Communication is important in any relationship. More so for those who are closer to us. God wants us to be best friends. So it makes sense that we would communicate more with Him than anyone else. Our communication with God includes reading His Word and praying.

There are lots of reasons to pray. First of all we are His children and He loves to hear from us. Praying deepens out trust in Him. When we pray, it causes us to depend on Him. I think one of the most important reasons for prayer is we can express ourselves completely to the Lord. Believe it or not our prayers move God’s heart. And it’s also an amazing way that we get to be involved with what God is already doing in our world.

Mother Teresa said this about prayer, “God shapes the world by prayer. The more praying there is in the world, the better the world will be, the mightier the forces against evil.”

Prayer is also a time to listen for His voice. Direction, guidance, love and comfort can all be communicated as we open our hearts to hear from Him.
